‘THE GAP BETWEEN THE FRIDGE AND THE COOKER’

Running through the Modern Institute’s Aird’s Lane galleries, THE GAP BETWEEN THE FRIDGE AND THE COOKER brings together 50 works, by 22 artists. Fully utilizing both spaces, the deliberate, condensed nature of the show defies the viewer’s predetermined manner of reading the works and instead, the pieces navigate the way they are seen as opposed to the viewer deciding what they look like.
Referencing the area that hosts a concentrated array of fragments unquestionably familiar to all, this is also space that has rendered them unconventional, where they have fallen off the edge. The title THE GAP BETWEEN THE FRIDGE AND THE COOKER however does not specifically speak of the home but more of a space as a psychological experience. Running through domestic but also personal image making, formal objects materialize and become something they are not. An interest in the projection of an element or the idea of an object hallucinating itself, are the common threads running through the works within the exhibition.
